	Route Maps

Route maps have been around since at least the 1920's. They were provided by airlines and sightseeing operators, as promotional items, to show passengers what cities they served and what areas of a country or countries were flown over. Some are very elaborate and include mileage charts, aircraft pictures, cutaways or descriptions, meal services, etc. In recent years, the maps have been incorporated into timetables and have become much less colorful and elegant. The early maps were designed as fold out pieces suitable for wall hangings, and in some cases almost works of art. They are not only historical views of a company, but the air-transportation system in general. January 2000
